Barnes Meadow Reservoir is the largest of the five high mountain reservoirs and is
currently used for winter deliveries as part of the Joint Operations Plan (JOP), as discussed in the
Operational Information section. Barnes Meadow Reservoir is an off-channel reservoir
constructed in 1921 on Barnes Meadow Creek, tributary to Joe Wright Creek, tributary to the
main stem Cache la Poudre River. Modifications to the dam structure over time have included a
rebuild of the outlet dam in 1990, a new spillway in 1992, and gate repairs in 2001. A 36-inch
pipeline diversion from Joe Wright Creek (35 cubic feet per second (cfs) capacity) is the
conveyance structure used to fill Barnes Meadow Reservoir. The inlet pipe is located below the
Chambers Lake outlet, which allows Greeley to store water in Barnes Meadow Reservoir from
Chambers Lake and from Joe Wright Reservoir, releases from which pass through Chambers
Lake.
Specifics regarding Barnes Meadow Reservoir include:
• Active capacity of approximately 2,349 ac-ft
• Maximum surface area of 108 acres
• Approximately 0 ac-ft dead storage
