Capacity:
At least 347.0 cfs. (347.0 cfs was the maxi mum daily diversion recorded on June 20,
1947.)
Diversion Measurement Device:
Confluence of North Feeder D itch and South Feeder Ditch
DWR WDID: 5104601
USGS ID: 09010000 - Grand River Ditch at La Poudre Pass
Datum: 10,175 feet above sea level NGVD29
Ditch Outlet: 10 foot concrete Parshall flume e quipped with Stevens recorder and
satellite linked monitoring system (Parshal l flume, measurement recording device, and
associated concrete weir housed inside a 6 f oot by 6 foot timber shelter to protect system
from inclement weather and vandalism)
Conveyance Efficiency:
It is possible that a loss study was performed in coordination with the
decree for newly developed waters (W-9322- 78); however, such a study has not been
located at this time. Deliv ery of Grand River Ditch water down the Cache la Poudre
River to the Larimer County Canal is asse ssed a 5 percent tran sit loss by the Water
Commissioner.
HydroBase Data:
Diversions are reported as continuously monitored st reamflow records and as
administrative records by Colorado DWR. Daily and monthly continuously monitored
streamflow records for Station 09010000 ar e available from 1929 through 2002. Daily
and monthly administrative records for St ructure 5104601 are available for water years
1955 through 2002. Both continuously monitore d streamflow records and administrative
diversion records are ava ilable on a daily and monthl y basis through Colorado DWR
HydroBase. In addition, George Varra, Water Commissioner for Division 3, also keeps
monthly diversion records for Grand River Ditch in a spreadsheet with other transbasin
diversion records.
Available diversion data for Grand River D itch was reviewed and compared to identify
the best available data source (shown in Figur e 2). Monthly diversions for Grand River
Ditch are presented in Table 2. The preferred set of data id entified for Grand River Ditch
was the continuously monitored data for St ation 09010000. When compared to the other
available information sources, the data at Station 09010000 displayed the following
characteristics:
The longest period of record,
The most complete set of data prior to and throughout the period of study,
Corresponding monthly and daily dive rsion data available, and
Continues to be operated as a re cording device through present.
GrandRiverDitch.doc 5 of 10
