Typical Operations
The typical operations of Standley Lake within the water supply systems for the Standley Lake
Cities are discussed below. These descriptions ar e relatively brief but are intended to illustrate
how Standley Lake is integrated into th e different municipal water supply systems:
City of Northglenn
The City of Northglenn utilizes Standley Lake fo r delivery of 100 percent of its municipal water
supply, which includes native Clear Creek water and transbasin supplies (i.e., Berthoud Pas
Ditch). The City also has some backup wells for emergency purposes but these wells are
typically not used. Prior to accumulating shares in the Church Ditch, Farmers’ High Line, and
Standley Lake Division, Northgl enn received its municipal wate r from the Northwest Utilities,
which supplied water to Nort hglenn via Standley Lake.
Northglenn’s current pro-rata owne rship of major water rights in the Clear Creek basin used to
Table 7
meet its municipal demands is summarized in .
Table 7
City of Northglenn Water Rights Portfolio
Share Ownership
Percent
Ditch Name
Ownership
Total City
Church Ditch 5,710.64 957.31 16.76
Farmers’ High Line 1,110.8858 5* 0.45
Croke Canal / FRICO 2,373 675.38 28.46
Berthoud Pass Ditch --- --- 50.00
Source: City of Northglenn
Notes: *Used exclusively for irrigation within City boundaries
Percent ownership based on City ownership / Total shares
The Northglenn annual demand is currently about 5,600 ac-ft with an anticipated build out
demand of about 7,100 ac-ft. Northglenn delivers wate r from the reservoir to its water treatment
plant (WTP) through a 48-inch pipeline shared wi th Thornton. The City also has a 40 million
gallon terminal reservoir near the 16 million ga llons per day (MGD) capacity WTP. Northglenn
has its own wastewater treatment facility, which discharges directly into Bull Reservoir and the
Bull Canal system or dir ectly to Big Dry Creek.
Winter – The City takes FRICO water direct through the Croke Canal supplemented with
Standley Lake storage releases, as necessary, to meet its winter demand.
Summer – The City receives approximately 300 ac- ft to 500 ac-ft annually into Standley Lake
from its pro-rata ownership in the Berthoud Pass Ditch (see SPDSS Task 4 – Berthoud Pass
Ditch memorandum for more information). The Be rthoud Pass supplies are typically diverted
alongside the other diversions to storage by Northglenn. Remaining municipal demands are
typically met with the City’s pro-rata share of Standley Lake storage water.
21 of 24
