PHYSICAL INFORMATION
Cameron Pass Ditch originates in Water Division
6 District 47 and terminates in Water Division 1
District 3 in Larimer County.
Construction of Cameron Pass Ditch began in
1892. Since first ditch water in 1913, the
diversion has been in continuous operation. The
ditch was historically used to provide irrigation
water to irrigators in the Cache la Poudre basin.
Cameron Pass Ditch collection system intercepts
overland flow from the surrounding watershed
and transports the water from the North Platte
River basin to the South Platte River basin.
Length: Approximately one mile.
Capacity: At least 21 cfs. (12 cfs was the maximum daily diversion recorded on June 30, 1973)
Diversion Measurement Device:
DWR WDID: 4704602
USGS ID: CAPDCPCO -Cameron Pass Ditch near Cameron Pass
Datum: 10,300 feet above sea level NGVD29
Outlet Ditch: 2 foot Parshall flume equipped with a F 1 recorder. Cameron Pass Ditch is
not equipped with a satellite linked monitoring system. The measurement device is
located at the terminus of the ditch, before water is released into Joe Wright Creek, on the
North side of Highway 14, near the headgate for Michigan Ditch.
Conveyance Efficiency: The ditch was originally earth-lined. It is unknown if portions of the
ditch have ever been lined or if any significant improvements or modifications have been
made to Cameron Pass Ditch. Water rights for Cameron Pass Ditch indicate a volumetric
enlargement of the ditch in a second decree. It is unknown if any ditch modification were
performed in accordance with the decreed volumetric ditch enlargement.
HydroBase Data: Diversions are reported as continuously monitored streamflow records and
administrative records by Colorado Division of Water Resources (DWR). Continuously
monitored streamflow records are available for Station CAPDCPCO for water years 1931
through 2002. Administrative diversion records are available for Structure 4704602 for
water year 1987 through 2002. Both continuously monitored streamflow records and
administrative diversion records are available on a daily and monthly basis through
Colorado DWR HydroBase. In addition, George Varra, Water Commissioner for
CameronPassDitch.doc 4 of 9
Cameron Pass
