SECTIONFOUR Formulation of Alternatiues
, grade at the upstream dam toe. It was indicated in the 2003 Study that seepage was not
present along the south dam. Seepage was visible during the test filling. The clay liner
~ would also need to be constructed similar along the north dam.
3. A, toe drain would be installed along the north dam to intercept seepage that bypass the
~ cutoff trench.
4. A spillway approximately 200 feet in length would be constructed along the right
~ abutment of the south dam. The location of the spillway should be relocated based on ~he
~ historical drawings for the project.
S. Riprap would be placed along the upstream dam face.
t 6. The dam crest would be graded and leveled to gage height 2D.
~ 7. The two abandoned outlet works would be excavated, removed, and backfiZled with
compacted clay material.
8. The existing outlet would be repaired as required to meet SEO Rules.
`9. An 8-foot by 8-foot box culvert at the inlet of the reservoir would be constructed to allow
for access to the dam.
~ I0. Improvements to approximately 2,000 feet of the Suppty Ditch located to the north of the
project site would be completed.
~ This alternative did not meet the project goals and needs since they have changed since the
development of the 2003 Study. This alternative was not considered viable and was not
~ considered further.
4.4 ALTERNATIVE 2 - MAtNTENANCE
This alternative was developed based on the site conditions discovered during the test filling of
, the reservoir and the drilling program performed by URS. Isolated areas downstream of the
~ northem and southern embankinents became saturated while filling the reservoir. The general
locations of the saturated areas are presented in Appendix G. It appears that there is a sand layer
~ and loosely compacted embankment material generally associate with the northern embankment
seep area. The borings along the southern embankment did not indicate discontinues with
~ - ~S 4-2
