Key structures in the South Platte River Basin of the City of Aurora's System are as follows
(progressing in downstream manner):
1) South Park Gages used in quantifiation and administration of changed water rights.
2) Homestake Pipeline (see Figure 1) through which water from the Colorado and Arkansas
River Basins is imported into the South Platte River above Spinney Mountain Reservoir.
3) Spinney Mountain (Mtn) Reservoir.
4) Aurora Intake at Strontia Springs Reservoir.
5) Aurora Wells.
6) Aurora Reservoir.
The infrastructure listed above is used in the conveyance and storage of water supplies attributed
to a large number of water rights in the South Platte, Arkansas and Colorado River Basins.
Aurora's South Platte water supplies rely heavily on changed water rights historically used in
South Park. These changed water rights and other water rights in the South Platte Basin are
described in more detail in the Water Rights section of this memo. Aurora's infrastructure in the
South Platte Basin for the storage and conveyance of its water resources are discussed in more
detail below.
The location of Aurora's key structures and other major components of its water resources
system in the South Platte Basin are shown in Figure 1. The general locations of some of the
major water right changes used by Aurora are also highlighted in Figure 1.
3 of 29
