5) Aurora Wells (multiple Structure IDs -see Table 8)
Aurora owns a variety of ground water rights capable of delivering water into their supply
system. Aurora principally uses their ground water systems to supplement their surface water
supplies or for water quality blending purposes. The largest ground water supply comes from the
Cherry Creek alluvial wellfield, but diversions from that wellfield often requires augmentation
from other Aurora reusable sources, due to its relatively junior water right priorities compared
with downstream water rights.
HydroBase Data
Monthly diversions for the Aurora Wells are not available over the 1950-present period of record
in HydroBase. Aurora typically reports well usage to the state from its wells as part of
augmentation/replacement plan reporting (i.e., Cherry Creek Regional Plan).
6) Aurora Reservoir (No Structure ID)
Aurora Reservoir, completed in 1990, is an off channel reservoir located on Senac Creek, an
intermittent stream, in Sections 15, 16, 20, 21 and 22, TSS, R65W, 6th P.M. (see Figure 1).
Aurora Reservoir is used as terminal storage (close to Aurora) of raw water supplies. For
modeling purposes, we recommend using <08_AurRes> as the identifier for Aurora Reservoir.
Specifics regarding Aurora Reservoir include the following:
• The drainage basin area above Aurora Reservoir is approximately 4.74 square miles.
• Total capacity of 31,679 ac-ft.
• Dead storage of 450 ac-ft.
• Total active capacity of 31,229 ac-ft.
• Maximum surface area of approximately 820 acres.
Aurora reservoir is principally filled with surface water diverted at the Aurora Intake, that water
subsequently passing through the Aurora pipeline with capacity of 62 cfs (limited by pump
capacity). Additional supply to Aurora Reservoir is generated from the Senac/Aurora Reservoir
non-tributary wells. Additional discussion of the Senac/Aurora Reservoir non-tributary wells
occurs in the Water Rights and Operational Information sections.
Water is released from Aurora Reservoir to meet Aurora's municipal demands through the
Aurora pipeline with capacity of 124 cfs (80 mgd). The larger capacity indicated for Aurora
pipeline for reservoir releases reflects the gravity flow use of the pipeline.
HydroBase Data
Monthly end-of--month contents data for Aurora Reservoir is not available over the 1950-present
period of record in HydroBase. Content records (1997-2005) have been provided by Aurora and
have been forwarded to the DWR database administrator for inclusion into HydroBase inclusion
into HydroBase.
City of Aurora Operating Memorandum 10 of 29
