Title
SPDSS Task 2 - Identify Key Streamflow Gages and Estimate Streamflows for Missing Records
Description
The objective of this task is to identify key streamflow gages to use in the SPDSS modeling efforts and to develop a method for filling missing data. Revised memo to account for new information regarding the Balzac Gage. Revised February 2007.

The Sand Creek gage missing data from 1950 through 1982 were filled using annual linear
regression with the Laramie River gage (the Laramie River gage is only complete through 1982).
The Sand Creek gage only contains historical winter data for the winters of 1968 - 1970. With
only three years of historical winter data, the monthly linear and monthly logarithmic regressions
did not provide reasonable winter flows for the 1950 - 1982 period and the correlation was better
with annual linear regression than with annual logarithmic regression. Regression between the
Sand Creek gage and other nearby gages produced negative flow values for the winter months of
1982 through 2002. Therefore, the Sand Creek gage historical monthly averages from 1968
through 1971 were used to fill the winter months of 1982 through 2002. The filled results are
shown in Figure 8.
16,000
14,000
12,000
w 10,000
a~
U
~ 8,000
O
~ 6,000
4, 000
2, 000
- O V 00 N (O O V 00 N (O O V 00 N
Lf) l!7 l!7 (O (O I~ ~ ~ W 00 ~ ~ ~ O
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ O
Filled Data Historic Data
Figure 8: Sand Creek at Colorado-Wyoming State Line Filled Results
Task2.doc 24 of 30
