South Boulder Creek
In1995, the South Boulder Creek near Eldorado Springs (06729500) stream gage was
discontinued. The South Boulder Creek near Eldorado (BOCELSCO) gage, which is located at
the original gage location, provides data starting in 1990. The near Eldorado Springs gage data
were utilized from 1950 through 1989, and the near Eldorado gage data were used for the
remainder of the study period.
Together, the two Eldorado Springs gages provide historical data for the entire SPDSS study
period. There are no major diversions or tributary inflows between the old and new gage
location and little to no difference in contributing drainage area to each gage location, according
the USGS and State of Colorado's GIS coverage. Therefore, the two gages were combined
without any further adjustment.
South Platte River Littleton/Englewood
The South Platte River at Littleton (06710000) gage was discontinued in 1986. In 1989, the
South Platte River at Union Ave at Englewood (06710245) gage was installed about 0.9 miles
downstream from the previous gage location. In 1996, the gage was moved about 300 feet
further downstream to the current location of the South Platte River below Union Ave, at
Englewood (06710247) gage. The at Littleton gage data were utilized from 1950 through 1986,
the at Union Ave, at Englewood gage data were utilized from 1989 through 1995, and the below
Union Ave, at Englewood gage data were used for the remainder of the study period.
Together, the three gages provide historical data for 94% of the SPDSS study period. The
difference in contributing drainage area to the South Platte River at Littleton and Union Ave
gages is approximately 1%, according to the USGS. There are no major diversions, but Big Dry
Creek is an inflow located between the at Littleton gage and the gage at Union Ave. Although it
is not gaged, Big Dry Creek has been investigated and has a minimal impact on the South Platte
River streamflow. Therefore, the at Littleton gage and the at Union Ave gage were combined
and the missing data from 1986 though 1989 were filled with regression (as described in the next
section).
The South Platte River diversion for the Englewood Intake (0801013) is located between the at
Union Ave gage and the current gage below Union Ave. HydroBase contains Englewood Intake
diversion records for the entire SPDSS study period. To account for this major diversion, the
Englewood Intake diversions were subtracted from the two upstream gages, effectively adjusting
the upstream gage data to the current downstream gage location.
South Platte River at Balzac
In 1980, the South Platte River at Balzac (06760000) gage changed station ID's to South Platte
River at Cooper Bridge near Balzac (06759910), but the gage was not moved upstream until
October of 1987 to the current gage location. The at Balzac gage data were utilized from 1950
through September 30th 1987, and the at Cooper Bridget near Balzac gage data were used for the
remainder of the study period.
Task2.doc 19 of 30
