5. If an aggregate structure was greater than 1,500 acres, and there were two or more distinct
areas of ground water only parcels, the parcels were split based on visual inspection into
more than one "structure" and assigned a letter designator, such as " 25URF17a" and
" 25URF 17b".
6. Some ground water only parcels fall outside of defined URF zones. These were grouped by
water district and assigned a URF zone of 0, such as "35URF0".
7. A table consisting of the results of Steps 1 - 6 (groundwater-only structure name, and
associated irrigated parcels) was created to provide direct input into "aggregate" commands
for the CDSS DMIs.
Results
Ground water only parcels were assigned to 60 separate "structures" (Table 1). As presented in
Table 1, the "structures" account for a varying amount of acreage, from as little as 16 acres
(24URF84) to as much as 7,400 acres (27URF24). The parcel assignments to the 60
groundwater-only structures have been made within command files to execute the DMIs watright
and demandts for creation of StateMod input files.
Figure 1 shows the URF zones and associated ground water only parcels.
Comments and Concerns
Eight ground water only structures consist of more than 1,500 acres. In most cases, these
relatively large aggregated areas are associated with center pivots, as well as corners also
receiving some supply from the ground water source. The decision was made not to break these
areas up into separate "structures" because they logically belonged together, as in the case of the
parcels serving the "North Star Farm" near Saguache.
The work described in this memorandum was performed by the Consumptive Use Contractor to
the RGDSS project (Leonard Rice Consulting Water Engineers) to simplify the effort required to
include irrigated acreage updates. When future revisions and updates are made to irrigated
acreage and ditch service area mapping, assignments parcels to ground water only structures must
also be revisited and updated as necessary.
C:\cdss\Task8-l.doc Groundwater Only Lands July 6, 2000 -Page 2 of 5
