RGDSS Memorandum <br />Final <br />TO: Ray Bennett <br />FROM: Ed Armbruster, Hydrosphere <br />SUBJECT: RGDSS Surface Water, Task 7.3 -Aggregate Structure Efficiencies <br />DATE: March 13, 2000 <br />CC: Randy Seaholm <br />Introduction <br />This memorandum represents delivery associated with Task 7.3, Aggregate Structure <br />Efficiencies. The objective ofthis task is as follows: <br />Estimate efficiencies of aggregated structures based on average monthly basin wide <br />efficiencies. <br />The watright command file references the Rio Grande network file (rg.rin) and extracts diversion <br />station data associated with all river diversion stations in this file. In its initial application, <br />watright creates the diversion station file (rg.dds), and diversion rights file (rg.ddr).. Application <br />of the DMI demandts, in addition to creating the historic diversion file (rg.ddh) modifies the <br />diversion station file to include capacity estimates which reflect actual diversion records and <br />average monthly efficiency data which reflect actual diversion records and consumptive irrigation <br />requirement estimates. <br />The following general commands were used to set up specific characteristics of all diversion <br />stations using the DMI demandts, including aggregate structures. Note that the irrigation <br />efficiency values provided are expected to be refined in subsequent phases when consumptive <br />irrigation estimates are available for every agricultural ditch and aggregate group. At a later stage <br />in model development, efficiencies of aggregate structures will be based on average monthly <br />basin-wide efficiencies calculated and reported for explicitly modeled structures, and if needed, <br />adjusted based on localized information and calibration efforts. <br />Aggregate Structures Ditch Capacities <br />The capacities of all aggregated structures were set to the sum of the historical maximum <br />diversion amounts of each structure in the aggregate group (usehistcap). <br />Aggregate Structures Irrigation Efficiencies <br />Monthly efficiencies were set based on information developed by the RGDSS Consumptive Use <br />contractor (Table 1) (eff12, seteff~. Subsequent modeling efforts will use efficiencies determined <br />for each month of the year based on the ratio of the average crop water requirement for the month <br />to the average historical monthly diversion. <br />C:Acdss\Task7-3.doc Aggregate Structure Efficiencies March 13, 2000 -Page 1 of 2 <br />
