characteristic (wet, dry average) for each month of the study period. Historical diversion records are
then averaged over each of these three hydrologic conditions, and missing data filled based on
hydrologic condition of the missing month. This data filling technique reflects year-to-year
variability in diversion amounts resulting from differences in hydrologic condition.
Direct Diversion Demand File
The Direct Diversion Demand (rg.ddm) file contains monthly direct flow demands for each diversion
structure modeled in the Rio Grande surface water model. For the historical simulation (Phase 1
model development), the rg.ddm file is equivalent to the historical diversion file (rg.ddh). The
rg.ddm file is provided as Attachment 5.
In subsequent model development phases the rg.ddm file will be developed to reflect a calculated
demand based on irrigated acreage data, crop mix data, and efficiency estimates.. Information on
irrigated acreage and cropping is currently being developed by the RGDSS Consumptive Use
Contractor.
Comments and Concerns
The Scope of Work for RGDSS surface water modeling efforts calls for completion of several model
development phases. This memorandum documents development of the Phase la surface water
model. Subsequent model development phases will result in modifications to the model diversion
input files described above.
Attachments
1. rg.dds: diversion station file
2. rg.ddr: diversion right file
3. rg.dly: delay pattern file
4. rg.ddh: monthly historic diversion file
5. rg.ddm: monthly historic demand file
C:Acdss\Task6-7.doc Prepare Diversion Files September 22, 1999 -Page 6 of 6
