Streamflow Gages
Surface water flow gages currently exist and/or have existed historically at many locations in the
basin that are key inputs for the Phase la Surface Water Model. These locations are typically
USGS flow gages, though the State of Colorado has installed flow gages in recent years and taken
responsibility of some USGS gages that would have otherwise been abandoned. The period of
record and quality of data varies from gage to gage. The accuracy of most gage data is more than
sufficient for a monthly water management/planning model. The critical concern for this model
therefore became the completeness of the historical record.
The following sections describe the completeness of the available gage data used in developing
the StateMod hydrology input file (rg. rih), and the data filling techniques that were used when
necessary.
Hydrologic Time Series in RIH Input File
Stream Flow Locations in the StateMod Network
Following is a list of the stream flow locations in the StateMod model network, also known as
"flow nodes." For each of these locations, a time series is specified in the rg. rih input file that is
created by the StateMod DMI, tstool. The following sections describe how these time series
were created. The discussions in the following sections are organized by Water District and
stream sub-basin, and sorted from upstream to downstream.
Water District 20
200919TM
This stream flow location was created in the StateMod network to reflect imported "trans-
mountain" water to the Rio Grande River in Water District 20. The stream flows are set to
equal the historical diversions of WDID 200919, PINE RIVER WEMINUCHE. They are
input to the tstool DMI via the file, 200919TM. STM in the TS FILES directory.
200922TM
This stream flow location was created in the StateMod network to reflect imported "trans-
mountain" water to the Rio Grande River in Water District 20. The stream flows are set to
equal the historical diversions of WDID 200922, WEMINUCHE PASS D. They are input to
the tstool DMI via the file, 200922TMSTM in the TS_FILES directory.
08213500
This stream flow location in the StateMod network was created to reflect historical observed
stream flows at USGS gage 08213500, RIO GRANDE AT THIRTYMILE BRIDGE, NR
CREEDE, CO. The period of record for this gage is 1909-1996. No adjustments or data
filling was necessary for this location, therefore, the tstool DMI reads the historical flows
for this gage directly from HydroBase.
C:Acdss\Task6-6.doc Prepare River System Files March 8, 2000 -Page 2 of 11
