RGDSS Memorandum
Final
TO: Ray Bennett
FROM: Jim Brannon, Ed
SUBJECT: RGDSS Surface
DATE: August 15, 2000
CC: Randy Seaholm
Introduction
Armbruster, Hydrosphere
Water, Task 5.5 -Test StateMod Enhancements
This memorandum represents delivery associated with Task 5, Run Test Applications and
Document Enhancements to StateMod. The objective of this task is as follows:
Review recent enhancements to the StateMod code. Run up to three test applications
provided by the State designed to evaluate the performance of recent StateMod
modifications.
Application of StateMod to the Rio Grande Basin has required several modifications to the model
code to accurately represent water use and water management practices. The modifications that
were made during RGDSS efforts included the development of operating rules and/or
configuration of input data to allow:
All enhancements to the StateMod code were made by the State and executable codes were
provided to the Surface Water Contractor for testing. Discussed below is a summary of the
objectives of each model enhancement, the test applications and results, and comments
concerning their use and functionality.
Testing of each of the enhancements proceeded by first reviewing objectives with the State, and
then implementing the new operations in a simple test network with relatively few nodes
(demands, inflows, etc.). This facilitated a focus on performance of the new rule, and simplified
the process of "tracking" model decisions concerning water allocation (amount diverted, stored,
released, etc.). The new operations were then incorporated into the full-scale Rio Grande
application of StateMod (Phase 1 Model), and results were closely
was behaving as intended and those objectives were met.
examined to ensure the model
C:Acdss\TaskS-5.doc StateMod Enhancements August 15, 2000 -Page 1 of 8
