The comments were provided in pdf format and are included in Appendix A. Responses to each
numbered comment are provided below.
Task 42.2 -Bedrock Configuration
1. The text was modified to indicate that the `net sand thickness' is the sum of sand plus silt.
2. The text was modified to clearly indicate that all bedrock picks were made by SEO staff.
3. The computed elevation of the aquifer top and bottom surfaces are available from the State in
GIS format; therefore, the ability to compute aquifer thickness exists.
4. Comment noted. The maps of net sand thickness are based on the SEO database of
geophysical log picks.
5. The appendix has been modified as requested to include a brief explanation for each outlier.
This is now Appendix B in the Final Phase 2 Technical Memorandum.
6. The study team feels the conclusions and recommendations (regarding adequacy of bedrock
surface and inclusion of confining units when conducting regional-scale modeling) are
reasonable and appropriate.
Task 42.3 -Alluvial Configuration
Comments noted. The comment relating to water level trends in the Upper Black Squirrel region
is addressed through revised text in the Task 44 Technical Memorandum to note potential
pumping effects on water levels.
Task 43.2 -Denver Basin Properties
1. The study team used the existing data to its fullest extent to obtain estimates of hydraulic
conductivity and we recognize some of the limitations of these methods as noted in the comment.
2. The text for Conclusions #6 and 8 have been revised to acknowledge the uses of specific yield
data and to note the need for additional processing of aquifer K data before its use in the bedrock
aquifer modeling.
3. We note the concerns about conducting aquifer pumping tests due to their higher cost but feel
this is the best way to obtain high-quality aquifer property data.
Task 44.2 -Denver Basin Water Levels
1. The analysis maybe conservative but accurately depicts the data. The study team has
enhanced the Phase 3 Task 44.2 Technical Memorandum to include sections on water level
trends; please see Sections 1.5 and 3.2 of the Phase 3 memo for this discussion and presentation
of the trends.. We respectfully disagree that conclusion #2 overstates the situation when it says
that the data provided in this memo represents an important addition to the knowledge and
