SPDSS Groundwater Technical Peer Review Committee Meeting Minutes
February 13, 2007
Page 9
4. Question: How is imported water being simulated?
N. Banta response -Simulation of imported water is included as recharge from irrigation.
5. Question: Pumping does not seem continuous.
S. Paschke Response: Yes, true on a seasonal basis, but model stress periods are multiple years.
Pumping rates account for seasonal discontinuous pumping.
Question: Where are there areas where calibration is better/worse? Are there areas of hydraulic
disconnection to stream?
S. Paschke Response: In early calibration runs, heads were highest in Arapahoe and Laramie-Fox Hills in
southeastern portion of modeled areas. Addition of ET discharge reduced this spatial bias. Streams are
simulated with the SFR2 package, and the alluvial aquifer is represented as layer 1 in the model. There
are designated stream cells in the model where no surface water discharge is occurring, to ensure correct
accounting of surface water in the model budget.
7. Question: Is there any data showing water level declining when aquifer goes unconfined?
Response: No.
8. Question: Is ASR simulated.
Response: No.
9. Question: Expand on using existing wells for water-level monitoring.
S. Paschke Response: Yes, there is currently a network of about 270 wells where the State is monitoring
water levels, but none of these are dedicated monitoring wells.
