SPDSS Groundwater Technical Peer Review Committee Meeting Minutes
February 13, 2007
Page 3
I. Introductions and Discussion (Agenda Item A)
A. Ray Alvarado provided a welcome and brief introductions of the study team.
II. SPDSS Summary (Agenda Item B)
Please refer to CDM's presentation for details (available on the CDSS website).
A. Review of General Scope, Phasing, and Schedule
1. The SPDSS project is a 5-year study - at this time, the project is approximately halfway completed
(currently in Phase 3).
2. Objectives of the groundwater portion are to enhance groundwater data available for public use (through
modeling and Hydrol3ase).
B. Data Analysis and Updates Since Phase 2
1. Task 34: Streambed Testing
a. Streambed Testing Conclusions
i. Streambed sediments in main stem and in Poudre River more coarse-grained than in
tributaries overlying Denver Basin.
ii. No distinctive Streambed seen to 3-foot coring depth.
iii. Grain size data and Shepherd equation appropriate for estimating Streambed K values.
Mean = 184 ft/day in main stem and Poudre; mean = 37 ft/day in tributaries.
iv. No measurable stream/groundwater gradient at most locations -strong hydraulic
communication.
2. Task 42 -Aquifer Configuration
a. Data sources for maps -from numerous published reports.
b. Data processing -contoured data digitized into ArcGIS, overlapping map information was
merged (and gridded using kriging algorithm). Results show good agreement.
c. Maps available include: alluvial base elevation, alluvial saturated thickness, alluvial cross sections.
d. Aquifer Configuration Conclusions: aquifer configurations from hard copy reports now
digitized (GIS).
e. Aquifer Configuration Discussion
