The values vary through the <br />study area from the farthest upstream, represented by Fort Collins and for the farthest <br />downstream, represented by Holyoke. All of these calculations were raster-based using <br />the interpolated precipitation. <br />The degree of localized recharge is somewhat variable on the South Platte system but is <br />dependent upon regional irrigation patterns. High cover of phreatophyte vegetation <br />occurs in locations where flows in irrigation canals and drainages create localized <br />recharge. The heavily recharged areas often contain small water bodies where surface <br />depressions intersect the local water table. At the other extreme, phreatophyte vegetation <br />in the tributaries south of the river (Figure 7) tends to be sparse and discontinuous, and <br />irrigation-induced recharge sparse but localized. As a generality along tributaries, the <br />water table lies deeper and small water bodies are rare (Tables 5 and 6). <br />18 <br />
