4. Enhance HydroBase with aquifer configuration data collected during the Phase 1
field activities.
5. Collect data to support future development and calibration of a groundwater
model.
This Technical Memorandum (TM) was undertaken for Task 42.2 of Phase 2 of the
SPDSS, and summarizes the compilation, analysis, and mapping of data to define the
configuration of the Denver Basin Region bedrock aquifers. A draft final version of this
TM has been reviewed by a technical Peer Review Committee; their comments are
reflected in this final version.
Approach
The following table summarizes the sections contained in this TM.
Section Descri tion
1.0 Aquifer Confi uration Data Collection and Anal sis
1.1 Sources of Data
1.2 Data Anal sis and Processin
2.0 Aquifer Configuration Data and HydroBase
2.1 Database Structure
2.2 Database Qualit Control
3.0 Results
3.1 Confi ration of the Dawson Aquifer
3.2 Confi ration of the Denver Aquifer
3.3 Confi ration of the Arapahoe Aquifer
3.4 Confi uration of the Laramie-Fox Hills Aquifer
3.5 Cross-sections
4.0 Summar and Conclusions
5.0 Recommendations
1.0 Aquifer Configuration Data Collection and Analysis
Aquifer configuration data are used to describe the thickness and extent of an aquifer
and include the elevation of the aquifer top and bottom and also the total net sand
thickness of each aquifer. The following section describes the sources of data and the
approach used to collect, analyze, and map aquifer configuration data for the Denver
Basin Bedrock Aquifers.
1.1 Sources of Data
In August 2005, CDM received a portion of HydroBase, the State of Colorado's
hydrologic database, which contains aquifer configuration data for the bedrock aquifers
of the Denver Basin. In addition to containing data from other sources, the database
contains data that was collected by CDM for Phase 1 of the SPDSS, as documented in the
SPDSS Phase 2 Task 42.2 TM -Final 2
2/13/06
