they are divided. Additionally for creation of the cross-sections, the undivided portions
of the Dawson and Arapahoe Aquifers have been given the same color as their
respective lower members.
Table 4: Layers used to define the Denver Basin Region Aquifers
Layer Hydrostratigraphic Unit
1 Alluvium
2 Upper Dawson
3 Dawson Confinin Unit
4 Lower Dawson /Undivided Dawson
5 Dawson-Denver Confining Unit
6 Denver
7 Denver-Arapahoe Confinin Unit
8 Upper Arapahoe
9 Arapahoe Confinin Unit
10 Lower Arapahoe /Undivided Arapahoe
11 Laramie Confinin Unit
12 Laramie-Fox Hills
Data from the aquifer configuration database defines the top and bottom elevations of
the identified aquifers. For purposes ofcross-section development, the various confining
units were defined as the difference between the top of an underlying aquifer and the
bottom of the overlying aquifer.
Each aquifer and the confining unit were assigned color codes before preparing two
north-south and five east-west cross-sections (see Section 3.5). The cross-sections use a
vertical exaggeration (vertical to horizontal scales) of 67:1 to allow a better visualization
of layer thickness and layer variations.
2.0 Aquifer Configuration Data and HydroBase
One of the objectives of Tasks 31 and 42 was to create a HydroBase compatible database
with aquifer configuration data from the South Platte Alluvium region. This section
describes the HydroBase tables that are used to store configuration data.
2.1 Database Structure
The following paragraphs identify the key tables in HydroBase pertinent to aquifer
configuration data. Appendix D provides a more detailed summary of those tables and
fields.
Four data tables contain data pertinent to an aquifer's configuration WELLS,
GEOPHLOGS, REF_ELEV_ACCURACY and REF_LOC_ACCURACY.
The WELLS table contains the location, well elevation, permit number, well depth, and
many other types of information about wells in the SPDSS study area.
