SPDSS Phase 3 Task 41.3 Estimation of Municipal and
Industrial Pumping in the South Platte Alluvium Region
Final
To: Ray Alvarado, CWCB
From: Camp Dresser and McKee Inc.
Mark McCluskey, Joel Sobol and Gordon McCurry
Subject: SPDSS Groundwater Component Phase 3 Final Task 41.3 Technical
Memorandum, Estimation of Municipal and Industrial Pumping, South Platte
Alluvium Region
Date: February 8, 2006
Introduction
The groundwater component of the South Platte Decision Support System (SPDSS) focuses on
compiling and evaluating available relevant data to support the Decision Support System (DSS)
for the South Platte River watershed and to add the data to HydroBase, the State of Colorado's
hydrological database. The South Platte Alluvium Region consists of the unconsolidated
deposits of the South Platte River mainstem, extending downstream from just below Chatfield
Reservoir to the Nebraska state line at Julesburg, as well as the unconsolidated deposits of the
tributaries to the South Platte River. The South Platte Alluvium Region also includes the alluvial
systems overlying the Denver Basin bedrock aquifers in Water Division 2.
This task was undertaken for the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) and Division of
Water Resources (DWR), under Tasks 30 and 41 of Phases 1, 2, and 3 of the SPDSS by Camp
Dresser & McKee (CDM). Task 30 was undertaken in Phase 1 and included an inventory of
permitted well data. Task 41 was undertaken in Phases 1, 2, and 3 and included an estimation of
municipal and industrial alluvial pumping data from existing records. The objectives of these
tasks are as follows:
1. Obtain available historic records of alluvial groundwater pumping from 1950 to the
present and update HydroBase with these data.
2. Compile and estimate pumping values on a monthly basis for municipal and industrial
alluvial wells in the South Platte River Alluvium Region in a format suitable for import
to HydroBase. This estimation will be based on historical pumping records.
3. Identify additional data needs in the South Platte River Alluvium Region.
4. Develop a summary report that documents the methodology used in estimating pumping
values.
This Technical Memorandum (TM) was undertaken under 41.3 of Phase 3 of the SPDSS, and
summarizes the methodology and analysis used to estimate pumping values for periods in
which no data were available.
SPDSS Phase 3 Task 41 TM -Final
02/08/2007
