SPDSS Technical Memorandum
Final
To: Ray Alvarado
From: Camp Dresser and McKee Inc.
Mark McCluskey and Gordon McCurry
Subject: SPDSS Ground Water Component Phase 2, Final Task 39.2
Denver Basin Region Water Level Measurement Technical Memorandum
Date: May 17, 2005
Introduction
The groundwater component of Phase 2 of the South Platte Decision Support System (SPDSS)
includes compiling and evaluating available relevant data and creating a groundwater database
to support the Decision Support System (DSS) for the South Platte River watershed. For the
purposes of the SPDSS, the groundwater study area is divided into two hydrologic zones, the
bedrock aquifers of the Denver Basin Region and shallow alluvial aquifer of the South Platte
River and its tributaries that overly the Denver Basin Region, as shown on Figure 1. The South
Platte alluvial aquifer studied in this project extends from near Chatfield Reservoir, where the
South Platte River emerges from foothills, to Julesburg at the Colorado-Nebraska State line.
This fieldwork was undertaken for the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB), under
Task 39.1 of Phase 2 of the SPDSS by Camp Dresser & McKee Inc. of Denver, Colorado (CDM).
The purpose of this task is to collect water level data during the fall season after agricultural
pumping has ceased. The objective of this task is to provide hydrogeologic data for the bedrock
groundwater system in the Denver Basin Region to supplement existing information that is
collected by the State Engineer's Office (SEO) in the spring of each year. It is anticipated that
this task will be conducted on a set of wells for up to four years, as part of Phases 2-5 of the
SPDSS.
This Technical Memorandum documents the steps taken to identify, collect and present results
of this task. Data collected in this task will be included in the next update of HydroBase, the
Colorado's water resources database, containing streamflow, diversion, water rights, and other
data. The data will be analyzed and mapped as part of Task 44 of the SPDSS.
