INTRODUCTION
The goal of this project was to reconstruct the irrigation diversion stricture that consisted
of an open ditch, without a head gate, and apush-up gravel dam that prevented fish
migration and safe boat passage; the diversion also caused a section of the river to be
completely dried up during low water. The lack of a head gate resulted in the ditch being
occasionally washed out during high water, adding additional sediment to the river.
A Colorado Watershed Protection Fund grant, originally allocated for reconstruction of
the Stewart Ditch diversion (a similar project), was re-allocated to this project when
disagreement with the Stewart Ditch Company prevented that project. Additional funding
was provided by the Delta Conservation District and the Bureau of Reclamation. In-kind
donations of boulders and heavy equipment operating time were donated by the
Vandiford Ditch shareholders.
PROJECT GOALS, OBJECTIVES, and ACTIVITIES
Planned and Actual Milestones, Products and Completion Dates
TASK 1: Project evaluation and erzgirzeeriug and construction layout.
Products: Survey, Environmental Impact
Analysis and construction plans and
specifications.
Cost: $21,000.
