South Platte Decision Support System Groundwater Component Task 33 Field Study Work Plan
for Alluvial and Bedrock Well Installation, Testing, and Water Level Monitoring
other geophysical logs extending to a depth greater than 740 feet are available within
1 mile of the drill site, and it is determined that advancing the boring will provide
valuable lithologic data, the boring will then be advanced to a depth of approximately
740 feet to obtain a full geophysical log of the strata. The well will be completed in one
of the Denver Basin Region bedrock aquifers. This task will commence after the State
provides written approval the Field Study Work Plan. All geologic drilling and testing
will be performed in accordance with State of Colorado statutes and rules; if any
discrepancies occur between the methods described herein and State laws, State laws
will prevail.
3.2.2 Pre-field Activities
A drilling subcontractor will be selected by competitive bid process, and utility
location and well permitting will be performed as described in Section 3.1.1.
To facilitate access to the planned drilling site, location for drilling of a new well will
be located on a public right-of-way and will be accessible for the duration of the
drilling and monitoring under agreements to be negotiated by CDM with assistance
from the State. Any access fees will be paid by the Contractor and billed to the State.
The State will be consulted if drilling cannot be done on public right of way or if
access to a suitable location can only be accomplished after regrading.
CDM will submit to qualified drilling companies a bid package consisting of well
design, technical specifications, and contract documents for well drilling, sampling,
logging, testing, and completion. Drilling and well installation will be subcontracted
to a qualified drilling contractor who is licensed for this work in the State. Well
contractors submitting bids on the work will be required to obtain a performance
bond for the well construction work. Costs presented in Appendix A are preliminary
and will be refined following receipt of final bids from drillers.
The approved site location will be staked in the field and cleared for drilling by
informing the Utility Notification Center of Colorado (UNCC) no less than 2 days
prior to drilling. Any utilities not to be notified by UNCC will be notified individually
by CDM no less than 2 days prior to drilling.
CDM will provide notice of intent to construct a monitoring hole to the SEO no less
than 3 days prior to starting drilling. Following completion of field activities, well
permit applications, well testing, and construction reports will be submitted to the
State of Colorado. Well permit fees are not anticipated for wells installed on behalf of
the CWCB.
3.2.3 Bedrock Drilling and Lithologic Logging
Drilling will commence when access is available and weather conditions are suitable.
CDM's onsite representative will be present for at least 75 percent of drilling activities
and will maintain a log of all significant well construction and testing activities
according to the Procedure for Field Documentation and Quality Assurance/Quality
~.~.-~
15
Z:\SPDSS\10-CDM DELIVERABLES\PHASE 2 FIELD WORKPLAN\FINAL DRAFT\FINAL SPDSS TASK 33 2 WORK PLAN.DOC
