PROJECT TITLE: Big Thompson Watershed Management Plan
COLORADO WATERSHED PROTECTION FUND: Purchase Order # OE PDA OS-19
PROJECT START DATE: 11/1/2004 PROJECT END DATE: 9/15/2005
AWARD AMOUNT: $10,800.00
SUMMARY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Stakeholder involvement: Big Thompson Watershed Forum (Forum) identified over 300
potentially affected interests who were invited to participate in the planning process. Of
these, over 100 registered to participate. The Project Team of stakeholders guided the
planning process and developed a Nutrient Problem Statement. This consensus document
outlines the current threats nutrients pose to the Big Thompson Watershed and the
benefits of addressing these issues in a collaborative manner.
Determination of baseline conditions: Scientific experts were assembled into a Science
and Monitoring Subcommittee to review numeric nutrient thresholds that will reduce the
likelihood of eutrophic-related phenomena, such as declining dissolved oxygen and
excessive weed growth. Summary plots were prepared to identify the baseline conditions
of lakes and reservoirs.
-2-
