MEMO -TASK 91, APPENDIX 8
Appendix B -Well to Parcel Matching Process
During the water user meetings parcels were identified as irrigated with `surface water only', `ground
water only', or `supplemental'. Water users also sometimes identified which well irrigated a parcel. This
information was used to refine the well-to-parcel matching. See Section 2.4 for further information on
the meetings with water users.
Following the water user meetings, the parcels marked as surface water only were removed from further
analysis so that no wells would be assigned to them. The next step assigned common IDs to whole center
pivot units. Each part of a center pivot was assigned the same ID number. By using this ID as the parcel
ID in StateDGI, each part of a center pivot parcel was assigned the same well. See Figure B. 1 for an
example of the center pivot unit IDs.
Multiple iterations of StateDGI were performed to obtain the final well-to-parcel matches. The Rio
Grande DSS Memo 3.1 -Data Centered Ground Water Model has a complete description of the StateDGI
well-to-parcel matching routine. StateDGI matches irrigation wells greater than 50 gpm based on a
closest parcel methodology. It also prioritizes the parcels so that parcels irrigated by sprinklers and
parcels irrigated only with ground water will be assigned wells before other irrigated parcels. Each match
is ranked as a Type 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, or 9 match. Figure B. 1 shows the types of matches that occurred
through StateDGI in the SPDSS. Table B. 1 lists the definitions of all the matches that are possible
through StateDGI.
w 1®0010115
10oa1o114 looaaalla 1 =-
10aO1
f Type 1 Match p Irrigation Wells
~ Type 2 Match 0 Ground Water only Parcels
- - Type 4 Match ®5urface Water i?nly Parcels
~- Type 7 Match ®5upplemental Water Parcels
Type 8 Match ~ User defined Supplemental Parcels
-6 Type 9 Match
Figure B. 1.
