The final step in the process involved a review of the water body data, manually comparing it with the <br />satellite imagery, and correcting any errors. Any remaining cloud shadows and mountain shadows <br />incorrectly mapped as water bodies were removed. <br />3. Results <br />The total area of water bodies three acres or greater during the 2001 growing season is 98,638 acres for <br />the SPDSS study area (Table 1). An approximation of the area of water bodies less than three acres in <br />size is 9,600 acres. These features were less than the minimum size delineation and are not included in <br />Table 1, which summarizes the water bodies by size classes. Table 2 summarizes the water bodies by <br />Water District. Figure 1 shows a satellite image and an example of a large water body. The yellow <br />outline shows the mapped water body extent. Figure 2 shows a satellite image of a group of gravel pits <br />with outlines of water bodies. <br />Table 1.
