sub-basin scale map of drainage areas. The original data was received over the Internet at 250k
resolution. Two other coverages, elevation and hydrography, were populated at 100k. When using
these coverages together either for plotting or data analysis, the lower resolution of the Hydrologic
Units coverage became an issue. Therefore, using the elevation contour lines at 100k resolution and
the hydrography at 100k resolution, the boundaries for the sub-basins defining each Hydrological
Unit boundary line were improved to reflect the same resolution as the elevation and hydrography
coverages.
Maintain the CRDSS Relational Database
Although the CRDSS relational database was constructed and populated under other tasks, the
purpose of this task was to assure the continued proper and efficient operation of the INFORMIX
database software. The CRDSS database was backed up each business day. A full backup was
performed each Friday, while incremental backups were performed on the other business days.
Tapes containing the full backups were retained for 3 months before being returned to the rotation
scheme. Database administration activities were performed as necessary, including setting up new
users, maintaining current users, managing database security, tuning database engine performance,
and managing disk space and dbspace. The INFORMIX relational database software was not
updated during this phase; however, updates and patches to INFORMIX database utility programs
were applied as necessary to maintain the proper operation of the database.
The CRDSS database is currently running with the INFORMIX Online 5.0 database server, while the
current version of the INFORMIX OnLine Dynamic Server is 7.2. The current version is not just an
improved revision of the 5.0 server; several new technologies have been incorporated into the new
server that make this a new and different product. Upgrading to the current INFORMIX server
software is not recommended at this stage because technical support from INFORMIX is still
available for the 5.0 server. Furthermore, the advantages gained from new technologies in the 7.2
server are probably not justifiable given the current hardware and size and design of the CRDSS
database. In addition, other State efforts are using the 5.0 database server software, and maintaining
compatibility with those efforts is a consideration before upgrading.
Prepare a Task Memorandum to Describe and Summarize the Task Activities and Results
This subtask involves preparing a memorandum and the necessary documentation, including
appropriate sections in the CRDSS Users? Manual and the CRDSS Developers? Manual .
2
a320/taskmems/ 2-13-02.doc 01/03/97
