by multiplying the total population by a percentage which represents the urban population. The rural
population is the difference between total population and urban population. The total annual population
is also given a monthly coefficient, allowing the model to adjust for variations in population and water
usage throughout the year. Approximate consumption for commercial uses and for public uses is
calculated by the model based on the total population of the municipal sub-area.
Mineral Resources
For each sub-area, the model uses the actual consumptive use due to mineral resources as reported by the
USGS in 1996 for the years 1985 and 1990. These data were originally stored for each hydrologic unit
and are populated in the database by month. The yearly value from the USGS was distributed evenly
throughout the year (i.e. divided by 12). These amounts can be changed by the user in the Edit Scenario
Window of the CU Model to a monthly consumptive use if better data is later obtained.
Thermal Electric Power
For each sub-area, the model uses the actual consumptive use due to thermal electric power as reported
by the USGS in 1996 for the years 1985 and 1990. These data were originally stored for each hydrologic
unit and are populated in the database by month. The yearly value from the USGS was distributed evenly
throughout the year (i.e. divided by 12). These amounts can be changed by the user in the Edit Scenario
Window of the CU Model to a monthly consumptive use if better data is later obtained.
Fish and Wildlife
For each sub-area, the model uses the actual consumptive use entered by the user. No data for this
category were reported by the USGS or the USBR for the years 1985 and 1990.
Recreation
For each sub-area, the model uses the actual consumptive use entered by the user. No data for this
category were reported by the USGS or the USBR for the years 1985 and 1990.
Exports
For each sub-area, the model uses the actual transmountain diversion exports as reported by the State
Engineers Office. This amount can be changed by the user in the Edit Scenario Window of the CU Model
for individual scenarios.
3.0 cunonet DMI Inputs
The DMI is passed the name of a control file defining the sub-area and time parameters selected by the
user. This file is read by the DMI as it builds the low-level DMI input data structure. Control files have
?.ctl? as a suffix. For more information about the ?.ctl? file format, see the man page for cu_ctl.
3
11.29.96 2-09-19 IDS/CSU
