For this unit, the CULR used the Gateway station. In this analysis three stations, Gateway, Paradox,
and Uravan, were considered for this unit. Temperature differences between Gateway, Uravan, and
Paradox are about what one would expect given the elevation differences between the stations. Paradox
is located in a flat mountain valley where precip itation may be influenced by orographic effects.
Average annual precipitation at the three stations is: Gateway (10.98 inches), Uravan (12.68 inches)
and Paradox (13.89 inches). Based upon the location of the irrigated area with respect to the weather
stations and topography, the Uravan stati on is recommended for this hydrologic unit.
4.0 RESULTS
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather stations recom mended for use in
CRDSS are listed in Table 5.
5.0SUPPORTING MATERIAL
TABLE 1.
NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION
WEATHER STATIONS
USED IN THE UNITED STATES BUREAU OF RECLAMATION
1981-85 CONSUMPTIVE USES AND LOSSES REPORT
(Dolores-San Miguel River basins)
USGS
HYDROLOGIC WEATHER STATION
UNITCOUNTY STATION ELEVATION
14030001MesaFruita4480
14030002DoloresNorthdale6680
14030002MontroseParadox5530
14030002MontezumaDolores6940
14030002San MiguelParadox5530
14030003MontroseNorw ood 50% 7020
Uravan 50% 5010
14030003San MiguelNorwood7020
14030004MesaGateway4550
14030004MontroseGateway4550
TABLE 2.
CHANGES IN WEATHER STATIONS AS PROPOSED BY USBR PERSONNEL
(Dolores-San Miguel River basins ONLY)
USGS OLD NEW REASON
HYDROLOGIC WEATHER WEATHER FOR
UNITCOUNTY STATION STATION CHANGE
14030001MesaFruitaGatewayGateway is closer
14030002MontezumaDoloresCortezNone given
4
12..3.96 12.09-16 - Walter
