CRDSS
TASK MEMORANDUM 1.14-10
Consumptive Use Model
?cucommon? Data Management Interface - Returns Consumptive Use Model
Input Files For Common Data
1.0 ISSUE
The consumptive use (CU) model requires several formatted input files. At the highest level, a user
chooses to run the CU model using a specified area and time period. The area, represented by one or
more spatial identifiers, and the time period are passed on to several data management interface (DMI)
utilities, each of which supplies one or more of the required input files.
This DMI generates a formatted common-data file required by both the evapotranspiration and non-
evapotranspiration components of the CU model. Files having ?.cmn? as a suffix contain general
information common to the evapotranspiration and non-evapotranspiration components.
2.0 DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
The IDS Group is responsible for creating this routine; however, data are retrieve d from the CRDSS
database by a low-level DMI provided by RTi. The low-level DMI directly queries the database and
returns required data to the calling routine. The input and output formats for the low-level DMI will be
defined based on the direct effects they have on the construction and generalization of the DMI for other
uses.
The general function of this DMI is to return formatted data on crop/soil combinations for the specified
area and time period.
cucommon DMI Inputs
The DMI is passed the name of a control file defining the area and time parameters selected by the user.
This file is read by the DMI as it builds the low-level DMI input data structure. Control files have ?.ctl?
as a suffix. The file format is attached.
Area and Time Parameters
A number of spatial identifiers describing the specified area
?
Area to be supported: county, water district, hydrologic unit, and river basin
?
A list of spatial identifiers describing the specified area (county name, water district number,
?
hydrologic unit number, or river basin name)
The begin year for the model run
?
1
A275 01.09.95 1.14-10 CSU IDS
