Livestock
A standard amount of livestock consumptive use will be estimated based on the number and kind of
livestock in a given area. The actual consumption factor used by the USBR Methods Manual that will be
used by the consumptive use model is in gallons/head/day (ghpd).
Stock Pond
Stock pond consumptive use is an estimate of water loss through evaporation from stock ponds. This
value comes from considering the evaporation characteristics that can be expected from a stock pond
with a given surface area.
Estimating Consumptive Use for Other Categories
Other consumptive use categories may not be significant with respect to consumptive use total amounts,
but they are significant because of economic, political, and legal factors. Some of the water use and
consumptive use data will be available directly as diversion amounts; other categories will require
estimates based on human population in the case of municipal water use or will be based on reservoir
surface area in the case of unmeasured reservoirs.
Municipal
Where available, municipal diversion amounts will be included with estimates based on human
population in a given area. If possible, different data sources for diversion amounts will be used to
improve the methods to estimate water use from municipal areas.
Industrial
This category primarily includes two types of industrial uses: mineral resources and thermal electric
power.
Other Recreation
This category is currently not modeled, but may be included in later years.
Exports
There are two categories of exports, outside and inside the system. The outside system exports are those
that take water out of the Colorado River basin. The inside system exports are those that move water
between drainage systems. Export diversion are 100 percent consumptive.
Reservoir Evaporation
Reservoir evaporation calculates the evaporation loss from reservoirs by using the measured or estimated
net evaporation and the measured or estimated surface area.
2
A275 01.09.95 1.14-1 CSU IDS
