The Census Bureau data was combined with DOLA data using TSTooI filling techniques to
provide a base population data set for estimating water demands and consumptive uses in the
SPDSS study area. As decennial Census Bureau data is the only population data available from
1950 through 1960, linear interpolation in TSTooI was used to complete the population datasets
from 1950 through 2006. Annual population data summarized every 10 years by county, water
district and key municipality is shown in Table 1 and Figure 1. The Demand Rate is also
included in Table 1 and discussed in the following section, Historical Municipal and Industrial
Water Demands.
Table 1
Population for South Platte and North Platte River Basins
Population by County, Water District and Key Municipality
Demand Population
Basin County Rate
(GPCD) 1950 1960 1970 1980 1990 2000
Adams 166.6 40,234 120,296 185,789 245,944 265,038 363,857
Arapahoe 195.6 52,125 113,426 162,142 293,292 391,511 487,967
Boulder 211.5 48,296 74,254 131,889 189,625 225,339 291,288
Broomfield' 218.4 0 0 0 0 0 39,466
Clear Creek 282.1 3,289 2,793 4,819 7,308 7,619 9,322
Denver 224.5 415,786 493,887 514,678 492,694 467,610 554,636
Douglas 214.9 3,507 4,816 8,407 25,153 60,391 175,766
E1 Paso (5.3%) 195.5 1,312 3,548 4,791 4,157 5,169 6,886
Elbert (67.8%) 113.2 2,885 2,377 2,569 4,630 6,566 13,673
South Gilpin 206.2 850 685 1,272 2,441 3,070 4,757
Platte Jefferson 163.6 55,687 127,520 235,368 371,753 438,430 527,056
Larimer ~ 241.1 43,554 53,343 89,900 149,184 186,136 251,494
Lincoln (2.1%) 253.0 60 46 39 35 35 56
Logan (79.3%) 179.8 15,083 18,207 17,048 17,931 15,956 18,442
Morgan 340.7 18,074 21,192 20,105 22,513 21,939 27,171
Park (86.7%) 198.2 1,704 1,648 1,960 4,697 6,291 12,696
Sedgwiek (47.2%) 311.6 3,961 3,433 2,795 2,716 2,234 2,346
Teller (44.0%) 173.0 754 1,010 1,731 4,605 7,697 12,006
Washington (39.4%) 313.2 2,121 1,642 1,282 1,203 1,088 1,056
Weld 285.7 67,504 72,344 89,297 123,436 131,821 180,936
South Platte Total 776,787 1,116,466 1,475,880 1,963,318 2,243,940 2,980,878
North
Platte Jackson 266.7 1,976 1,758 1,811 1,863 1,605 1,577
South & NorthPlatte Total 778,763 1,118,224 1,477,691 1,965,181 2,245,545 2,982,455
Task 66.2 Memorandum.doc Page 3 of 26
