FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1

Purpose of Study

Co

This Flood Insurance Study report revises and updates a previous
Flood Insurance Study/Flood Insurance Rate Map for the ci ty of
Boulder, Boulder County, Colorado. This information will be used
by Boulder to update existing floodplain regulations as part of
the Regular Phase of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
The information will also be used by local and regional planners
to further promote sound land use and floodplain development.

...
-

In some states or communi ties, floodplain management c ri teda or
regulations may exist that are more restrictive or comprehensive
than the minimum Federal requirements. In such cases, the more
restrictive criteria take precedence and the State (or other
jurisdictional agency) will be able to explain them.

1.2 Authority and Acknowledgments

The sources of authority for this Flood Insurance Study are the
National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster
Protection Act of 1973.

The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for the original study were
performed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), for the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), under Inter-Agency
Agreement No. IAA-H-15-72, Project Order Nos. 2 and 3, Amendment
No.1. This work was completed in October 1975.

Revised hydrologic and hydraulic analyses in the area of the
confluence of Boulder and South Boulder Creeks were completed in
July 1982 by Leonard Rice Consulting Water Engineers, and were
incorporated into this study. This is a result of channelization
projects on South Boulder Creek and Dry Creek in the Flatiron
Industrial Park area.

Revised hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for Boulder Creek were
completed in January 1983 by Muller Engineering Co., Inc., and
were incorporated into this study.

Revised hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for Wonderland, Fourmile
Canyon, Skunk Canyon, Bear Canyon, Twomi le, and Goose Creeks for
the study reaches outlined in Section 2.1 were performed by MSM/SP
Group, for FEMA, under Contract No. EMW-C-0709. This work was
completed in April 1985.

tS:ll..~
