<br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 <br /> <br />Purpose of Study <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood Insurance Study is to investigate the <br />existence and severity of flood hazards in the Town of .Rangely, Rio <br />Blanco County, Colorado, and to aid in the administration of the <br />National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protec- <br />tion Act of 1973. Initial use of this information will be to convert <br />Rangely to the regular program of flood insurance by the Federal <br />Insurance Administration. Further use of the report will be made by <br />local and regional planners in their efforts to promote sound land <br />use and flood plain development. <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />1.2 <br /> <br />Coordination <br /> <br />The Town Administrator, Town Libra~T, Chamber of Commerce, Merrick <br />and Company (Consulting Engineers), Cold Regions Research Laboratories <br />(Hanover, New Hampshire), Moon Lake Electric Cooperative, county <br />officials, Soil Conservation Service, Bureau of Land Management, <br />U.S. Geological Survey, local citizens, and newspapers in Rangely <br />and Grand Junc.tion were all contacted to obtain information" maps, <br />and photographs pertinent to this s1:udy. <br /> <br />-On January 13, 1975, an initial coordination meeting was held, which <br />was attended by representatives of 1:he Federal Insurance Administra- <br />tion, the Town of Rangely, the County Planning Department, Merrick <br />and Company, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. On August 30, <br />1976, a final coordination meeting ~Tas held. This meeting was <br />attended by representatives of the Federal Insurance Administration, <br />the town council and county commissioners, the town planning commis- <br />sion, and the U. S. Army Corps of En~rineers. No changes were effected <br />as a result of this meeting, while t:echnical data generated for the <br />study were reviewed. <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />1.3 Authority and Acknowledgments <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />The source of authority for this Flood Insurance Study is the <br />National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended. <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed <br />by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, for the <br />Federal Insurance Administration, under Inter-Agency Agreement Nos. <br />IAA-H-16-75 and IAA-H-7-76, project Order Nos. 17 and 1, respectively. <br />This work, which was completed in November 1976, covered all signifi- <br />cant flooding sources affecting the Town of Rangely. <br /> <br />- '''''''~~-~-~~- <br /> <br />J <br />
