set of specific analysis questions as part of the overall effort
toward the major objectives. The reports are listed in Table 1 and
in the References. This Final Report is intended to synthesize the
main findings of the individual reports into one document, particu-
larly in presenting an integrated description of storms and cloud
systems.
This report is organized as follows. section 2 summarizes
the 1987 field research program, the details of which appear in Long
(1987b). Section 3 discusses the climatological context of the
weather during the 1987 study period and is taken from Risch et ale
(1988) with additions contributed by the Desert Research Institute.
section 4 combines the work of the Desert Research Institute, Risch
et ale (1988), and Solak and Allan (1988) in describing liquid water
and precipitation characteristics of 1987 STORMS. section 5
integrates the findings of the Desert Research Institute, Risch et
ale (1988), Sassen et ale (1988), Solak and Allan (1987), and Fukuta
et ale (1988) to describe in detail the evolution of three par-
ticular case study STORMS from the 1987 season. section 6 presents
the summary and conclusions. The results of transport and
diffusion studies using SF6 as a tracer gas are found in Risch et
a1. (1988) and are not repeated in this report, but the work is
summarized in section 6.

6
