O..lr research efforts fall into several categories. Under general tasks:

1) Evaluation of the research reconunendations in the 1974
Cooper Report. Development of a research and monitor-
ing scheme to support the SCPP.

We have prepared a first draft of the research and
monitoring plan and are working on a revision.

2) To serve as Ecological Coordinator.

We have met with various groups to explain the purpose
and plans for the eCological research.

3) To furnish to USBR and cooperators snow hydrology and
meteorologic information from Central Sierra Snow
LaboratO'ry (CS5L) and from an altitudinal transect
along Interstate 80 across the crest.

We have maintained the transect for 2 years. We \d11
continue this effort to secure a data base for use in
development of correlations between sno~~ack develop-
ment and melt at CSSL and these subsidiary points.

4) To furnish, on call, infomation on snolll'P3-ck condition
and expected perfonnance in response to incoming rain,
snow, or rain-snmv storms. The furnished infonnation
is used in the decision making process regarding seed-
ing cessation.

5) To ans\ier as many of the ecological questions raised by
Cooper as appears needed.

We have reviewed the Cooper report's recommendations
and have answered a number of them in \....ho1e or in
part.

-16-
