This would entail
development of experimental hypotheses and statistical evaluation
procedures. A project area would be defined and experimental sites
identified. Seeding trials would be conducted involving aerial and
ground-based devices to investigate transport and dispersion of
seeding material for targetting considerations. Cloud microphysical
characteristics before and after seeding would be studied.
Administrative procedures for acquisition of equipment would be
initiated.

Milestones:

Systems procurement and
Testing

- remote control automatic ground-based
silver iodide generator
microwave radiometer
- Ka band radar
- three automatic weather data collection
platforms
- ice crystal sampling probe
- radiosonde system
- site selection and development

Sub-contracts

- research aircraft
- seeder aircraft
- SF tracers
suaport studies

Field program
Reports

- one month of transport and diffusion trials

- SNOWATER Experimental Design and
comprehensive Field Program Plan (by
1 March 1987)
- Results of Year One Field Program
- Year Two Field Program Plan

2.6.2 YEAR TWO

SynoDs is:

During this winter a dual-channel microwave radiometer would be
located in the mountains to monitor supercooled liquid water (SLW). A
Ka-band radar would be co-located to provide vertical resolution of
the SLW. The ice crystal sampling probe would also be set up at this
site to investigate crystal riming. An upper air unit (already on
hand) would be operated upwind in British Columbia to provide winds
for targetting studies.
