This capability is <br />critical to the identification of seeding opportunities. <br />Notably, this state of the art system cannot be obtained Hoff <br />the shelf" and lead time of 12 to 18 months is necessary before <br />it can be deployed in the field. <br /> <br />~band vertically Dointino Dooolerized ,radar - this system <br />would provide continuous remote measurement of cloud droplets <br />and hydrometeors. These <br />measurements would be made at the radiometer/Ka-band radar site <br />to monitor the evolution of the microphysical characteristics <br />in seeded and un seeded precipitation. <br /> <br />2.4.1.2 Seeding Delivery System <br /> <br />Once a seeding opportunity has been identified additional systems are <br />required to deliver the seeding material to the designated targets. <br />The following constitute the proposed Seeding Delivery System to be <br />adapted to Alberta: <br /> <br />Seeder aircraft <br />dry ice. <br /> <br />to seed test clouds using pyrotechnics and <br /> <br />Automatic ground-based silver-iodide oenerators - to generate <br />seeding material for transport to orographic clouds over the <br />target area. A communication network for remote control of <br />these seeding delivery systems will be necessary. Monitoring <br />equipment would be used to assess operational reliability of <br />these generators. <br /> <br />Portable UDDer air observino stations to determine <br />cross-barrier winds and transport time from delivery systems to <br />target area. Sufficient time must be available for ice nuclei <br />to grow to snowflakes and then fallout of cloud into the <br />target area. This network would also measure temperature and <br />indicate occasions when cloud tops are warmer than -20De, <br />another criteria for seeding opportunity. <br /> <br />Dooolerized weather radar - to measure clouds, snow and winds <br />for the study of weather systems andtargetting of seeding <br />material. <br /> <br />2.4.1.3 Physical Effects Measurement System <br /> <br />2-6 <br />
