PROJECT SKYW A TER IS the Bureau of
Reclamation's precipitation management
research program designed to explore, de-
velop and determine the feasibility of
applying the technology of weather mod-
ification to meet the Nation's increasing
demand for clean water.
Skywater is a national research effort mo-
bilizing members of the academic com-
munity, private research organizations,
Bureau scientists, and numerous other
Federal and state agencies.

The focus is on the management of precip-
itation and its effects on the environment.
The project utilizes a broad spectrum of
expertise in meteorology and the physical
sciences, while placing important empha-
sis on ecological, social, and economic
implications.

Originally recognized in the mid-1960's
as at least an $800 million task over a
period of 20 years, actual funding through
the first 10 years totaled $42 million.
