Page 5

II. Experimental Area

The portions of the Mogollon Rim area which drain into the Verde and
Salt Rivers have been identified by Alrizona watE~r interests as being
of primary interest for potential augmentation. This relativl~ly
narrow band of hi gh el evat i on ground l~xtends in a sweepi ng arc from
the Fl agstaff vi ci nity southeastward to the New Mexi co border. Of
primary interest for winter weather modification potential are those
areas over approximately 7,000 feet in elevation where the majority
of seasonal snowpack storage occurs. Figure 1 shows the general
area, and the specific portions which have been selected for
intensive investigation. The three blocks of airspace indicated for
research aircraft operation were coordinated with the FAA Albuquerque
Air Route Traffic Control Center. Pr'imary operations will be con-
ducted in Area 2 since it is the 1 east restri ctE~d by ai rcraft usage
conflicts. Areas 1 and 3, which have the smallest areas and the most
operating restrictions respectively, will be studied less intensively.
