Pa g e 23

and recorded from the theodolite. Winds can then be calculated
from the data.

11. Automatic weather recording stations will be utilized at the
Happy Jack site to record and process data from a variety of
meteorological sensors. The stations, known as PROBE units,
utilize Handar DCP (Data Collection Platform) to sample, average,
and temporarily store the data. Each hour, the stations transmit
the stored information to the Denver Federal Center by satellite
rel ay. The data are then transferred to the Montrose offi ce
computer for processing. One station will be located in the
microwave radiometer trailer. It will provide liquid and vapor
channel data from the radiometer, atmospheric pressure from a
Setra transducer, as well as air and dewpoint temperatures from
an EG&G system mounted outside the trailer. The second station
will provide data from sensors mounted on a radio communications
tower on a small hill just west of the Happy Jack Ranger Station.
Parameters to be measured are air temperature, relative humidity,
wind speed and direction, and occurences of icing events. The
latter will be obtained using a Rosemount ice detector system.
