<br />remarkable features shown in figure 21 are the pocket of cold air cen- <br />tered over Colorado anQ the warm air tongue extending north-northwest <br /> <br />from eastern Texas. <br />Cloud base temperatures range from 40C in the southern High <br />Plains to -9oC in the northern High Plains (fig. 22). Cloud,base <br />temperatures in the southern and northern High Plains are about the <br />same as surface temperatures, although i~he central High Plains the <br />cloud base temperatures are warmer than surface temperatures. A <br /> <br />ridge of cold cloud base temperatures runs from North Dakota south <br />to central Oklahoma and overlies the warm tongue of surface temperatures <br />found in the same location.
