ABSTRACT

Studies performed by the Bureau of Reclamation indicate that cloud seeding is a promising
option for increasing winter precipitation over the Mogollon Rim. Availability of radiometer
measurements and sounding records set the course for this study. Two approaches were used,
one more statistical in nature, and the other involving the application of the Smith-Feddes
model, to estimate CLW (cloud liquid water) content from soundings. Results suggest some
capability in estimating CLW. Performance of a followup task to study cloud PE (precipitation
efficiency) would involve application of forecasting equations to an existing sounding data set.

F.
