1.2 Objectives

The primary goals of this investigation were to (1) characterize the

\
precipitation from natural storms, (2) detect to what extent seeding at

Wolf Creek Pass modified the ice crystals relative to natural storms, and

(3) investigate the extent seeding potential was utilized based on the

ice crystal characteristics.

The third goal relates to the use of the model developed by Chappell (1970)

in predicting seeding potential. The assumptions of the Chappell model

call for sufficiently heavy seeding to eliminate all accretional growth

and produce precipitation entirely through diffusional growth. This

investigation should be able to evaluate the effectiveness of seeding in

meeting this assumption in the Chappell model.

-2-
