<br />FORMAT GUIDE <br /> <br />... <br /> <br />This bibliography contains 1361 citations divided into 25 topical categories. The cita- <br />tions are alphabetized by author within each category. <br />For ready access, each citation is listed by number in key term and author indexes. The <br />key term index includes cross references directing the reader to other key words recognized <br />by the bibliography. Where pertinent, citations are also listed in a geographical index. The <br />geographical index cites the location of research rather than the place of publication. <br />Each citation is presented in the following format. <br /> <br />No. Author(s). Year of publication. Title of book, thesis, or article. Title of book or journal <br />in which an article appears, editor(s), agency responsible for the research, 10cation of <br />research agency-city and state, subtitle, volume (number), pagination, illustrations, <br />publisher location-city and state. Purchase order number(s). Geographicallocation of <br />research. Key terms. <br /> <br />Publishing information will vary according to the type of citation. As a result. exceptions <br />to the basic format include: <br />-A paper presented at a conference or symposium. The name, 10cation, and date of the <br />conference immediately follow the year of publication. <br /> <br />-Periodicals. Title, volume number, pagination, illustrations, publishing organization, <br />and place of publication follow the year of publication. <br /> <br />-Graduate theses. M.A. or Ph.D. thesis, pagination, university and university location <br />follow the year of publication. <br /> <br />-Book citations, edition, pagination, publishing organization, and place of publication <br />follow the title. <br /> <br />-Purchase order numbers and available geographical locations follow the place of <br />publication. <br /> <br />-Inapplicable information is omitted; however, the order of the format is maintained. <br /> <br />4' <br />-' <br /> <br />All other citations respect the basic format. Illustrations consist of photographs, <br />drawings, maps, tables, or references. They are indicated by the abbreviation "illus." The <br />final item in each citation consists of key terms which briefly summarize the content of the <br />publication. <br />Neither the Bureau of Reclamation nor the Forest Service maintains a collection of <br />publications in this bibliography. However, each citation refers the reader to the publishing <br />or acceSSlOn agency. <br />Many of the references are 0 btained from abstracting services. Additional references have <br />been gathered from internal sources at the Pacific Southwest Forest and Range Experiment <br />Station, Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Berkeley, California.
