IV.

The type and time duration of data collected in
Phase I are summarized in figure 38. The following
paragraphs discuss each type of data and present
illustrative examples. Where practical, Appendix D
lists original data in tabular form; the snow-rate
data are too numerous for such listing, but are
available in punched card form.

Particle Detection
Seven diffusion tests were conducted in the Steam-
boat Springs area between 1 February and 9 April
1965 to determine diffusion characteristics of a
plume from Emerald Mountain under various wind
and stability conditions. The data were collected
in real-time by one aircraft and one or two mobile
ground-based detector units on strip chart recorders.
After two of the diffusion runs, snow samples were
collected along or near the track of the plume for
lnS analysis.

TYPE "" DEC. In addi-
tion, water samples from Walton, Fish and Spring
Creeks were processed during the spring thaw.
The neutron activation analysis technique was
used to determine the silver content of snowmelt
and replica samples from representative locations,
in the western United States, figure 39, under a
separate contract-Bureau of Reclamation, Contract
No. 14-06-D-5573.
