.

.

ABSTRA~

.

Research activities of North Ariterican Weather Consultants
(NAWC) and two subcontractors, Flueck Associates and Sierra
Hydrotech, during the period September 1982 through August
1983 are described. This work was concerned with the continuing
design, review, and analysis work on the Sierra Cooperative
Pilot Project (SCPP) being sponsored by the Bureau of Reclamation
in the Northern Sierra Nevada of Ca,lifornia.

.

.

Work was conducted in the revi.ew and revisi()n of an earlier
SCPP-l design developed as an exploratory research program
on post-frontal convection. Statistical simulations and assess-
ments using prior data were conducted to examine the dE~tectabili ty
of seeding signatures. A computE!r model, GUIDE, 'J7as utilized
to simulate the effects of seeding transposed on natural SCPP-l
clouds.

.

.

Work was conducted on the preliminary design of another
exploratory research program on the SCPP concerned with those
str~tiform cloud forms. Again, statistical simulations were
performed on previously collected data. Another version of
GUIDE was developed to predict the natural water balance in
SCPP-2 conditions over the Sierra Nevada. Contractor personnel
served on several task teams organized to develop the preliminary
design for SCPP-2 conditions.

.

.

The review function called fOI: in the contract '~as :Eulfilled
by on-site visits, attendance at SCPP quarterly meetings,
and the preparation of numerous letters on various aspects
of the SCPP.

.

.
