.

associated with the data cOllection) on other cloud types
thought to represent a potential for additional phases of
exploratory experimentation.

.

Another class of clouds of a more stratiform than convective
nature received increased attention as a possible second explor-
atory program (SCPP-2)" These clouds were composed of three
.precipitation echo tyP(~S (PETS) known as orographic, area
wide, and embedded bands. Draft designs were formulated for
a SCPP-2 exploratory experiment with input -from a variety
of project personnel. Task teams were formed to address specific
questions relevant to the finalization of a SCPP-2 design.

.

,

.

Continued simulati.on work on the earlier SCPP-l clouds
and questions concernin~ the SCPP-l conceptual model led to
some reconsideration of some of the contents of the original
SCPP-l design. These considerations appear to be leading
to a revised SCPP-l conceptual model and possibly additional
and/or different primary response variates being specified.

It

NAWC and subcontra, ctor activities were focused in three
gener~l. areas: 1) SCPP-l design, review, and analysis 2) SCPP-2
design and review and 3) reports and meetings 0 These activities
will be discussed separately in the following sections.

.

.

.

1-2

,

.
