""

3.2.6 Other
Routine synoptic data including surface and sounding data, as well
as teletype and fascimile products, will be archived at Big Spring by the
Texas Department of Water Resources and at Texas A&M University for later
use as required. These data will be made available as the need arises
following the field program.
3.3 Period of Field Program
The field program will begin on May 15, 1978 and terminate August 15,
1978. Equipment will be installed, checked out, and preliminary data
collected to insure that all systems are operational during the last half
of May. Cloud seeding and the collec, tion of data from the special surface
network will be conducted during the months of June and July, while multiple
atmospheric soundings will be made during the period June l-July 15, 1978.
Cloud seeding will be conducted primarily during June and July.
3.4 Types of Clouds and Cloud Systems Selected for Seeding
A variety of cloud types and cloud systems will be selected for seed-
ing during the summer of 1978. Emphasis will be placed on seeding a
large number of growing cumulus clouds in the -40C to -lOoC range. While
emphasis will be placed on calibration-type seeding of individual growing
convective clouds, turrets associated with a few convective complexes will
be seeded as well as turrets associated with clusters or lines of convec-
tive complexes. It is expected that no more than two lines will be seeded
in order to gain experience with this type of operation, although turrets
assocj,.ated with numerous convective complexes may be seeded depending
upon the frequency of occurrence of these complexes and the oppor'tuni ties
for seeding individual growing cumulus clouds.

10
